This is how ridiculous stuff like this happens.

Have we talked about Nancy Drew Files 99? How I went to the bookstore the day it was supposed to be released and actually worked up the nerve to ask an employee if it had come in when I didn't find it on the shelf, and when it was handed to me I practically hyperventilated with joy? Yeah. That is all entirely true.

I can't remember how I ended up there but I found a lot of the near-late Nancy Drew Files original cover artwork on a website, and got excited. I collect Nancy Drew; I collect books and cassette tapes and CDs and Mad Libs and postcards. I could have COVER ART? Like, MINE?

So I got bored this past weekend and pulled up that site, that had a lot of the cover art available for sale, and... it was unavailable. Suspended. Which freaked me out a little. (Was it like the internet equivalent of a sketchy chop shop?) So I posted to the Nancy Drew Sleuths site, asking about it, and got a response the same day about it, so, awesome. Backup site link, hooray!

Then I asked if anyone knew who illustrated the early Nancy Drew Files -- let me give you an example.

See how rich those colors are? How amazing it is? Yes.

So someone emailed me off-list geeking out about Nancy Drew Files cover art (he has 35-40 Nancy Drew illustrations including Files) and now I'm frantically Googling, for example, Enric Torres-Prat, who did AMAZING early Nancy Drew Files covers, and...

And I want a piece of cover art. Like, now. Like I want to order it right now. (I would DIE if I could get the original art for 19, or 6, or 7 - I think having the art for 8 would make me sad since that's the book when Nancy and Ned break up - or 18, or 22. And don't even get me started on the prospect of somehow getting a Nappi cover.)

I am in awe of those Nancy collectors who post photos of their collections, and I think, I wish I had a room big enough to display all my books the way I want! And that I had the money and time to spend on the books and memorabilia. And the Halloween costume, which one of my fellow teachers swears she's going to find for me in some random antique shop one of these days.

(I dreamt once that I found the Nancy Drew halloween costume. And I wore it. And there was a Ned costume as well. Of course if I found the Nancy Drew costume, I would NEVER EVER EVER wear it, but, hee.)

save me.
