i just wrote a bunch of stuff that LJ ate because apparently bullet points + LJ cut equals DIE IN A FIRE.

tonight was 5x04, mystery date

a series of spoilery observations, sometimes in capslock )

AHHHH THE UNCANNY VALLEY BABY PIXAR SHORT IS ON AND IT IS CREEPY

Monday
8 p.m., Chuck, NBC (starts 9/20)
9 p.m., The Event, NBC (starts 9/20, tryout)

Tuesday
8 p.m., No Ordinary Family, ABC (starts 9/28, tryout)
9:30 p.m. Running Wilde, Fox (starts 9/21, tryout)

Wednesday
8 p.m., Undercovers, NBC (starts 9/22, tryout)
10 p.m. Terriers, FX (starts 9/8, tryout)
[10:30 p.m., Tosh.0, Comedy Central]

Thursday
8 p.m., Community, NBC (starts 9/23)
10 p.m., The Mentalist, CBS (starts 9/23, DVR)

Friday
9 p.m., The Good Guys, Fox (restarts 9/24, DVR)

Sunday
10 p.m., Mad Men, AMC

I'm sure there are some more. Nothing else has really hit me yet, or someone will bug me in two years saying "You HAVE to be watching this," and then I'll start watching it.

[Note: The Good Guys is currently backed up on my DVR, and The Mentalist, I've noticed, I watch far more for the cop interaction than the "case," so I also DVR that and tune out during the case parts. I would be watching 30 Rock if the DVDs were caught up with the current season, but they aren't. I know I need to be watching Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy, or at least need to try out those shows to see if I like them, but I haven't yet.]

I also feel utterly unrepentant about eliminating Big Bang Theory from my schedule and my DVR. Granted, if I hear that Wil Wheaton will be guest-starring again, I'll tune in, but it seems that 3 seasons was enough for me.

If you have a compelling case for another show, feel free to make it in the comments. ;)

Day 29 - Current TV show obsession
Day 30 - Saddest character death

Current TV show obsession... well, now we're in the inbetween time for summer, but Mad Men is starting about a month from now.

Others: Community, Justified, Chuck. And I watch an inordinate amount of Tosh.0.

Fandom-wise, it's mostly Chuck and Legend of the Seeker right now.

Saddest character death... hmm. Well, we did just see the end of Lost, which featured any number of Jears-worthy deaths. However, if you watched The X-Files, and you saw "Closure," when they revealed Samantha's (most-likely) fate... well, I still want to cry when I hear "My Weakness" by Moby, because of that episode. Technically Samantha didn't die in that episode, but Mulder found out what had happened to her and it was kind of like her dying all over again, because until then he just didn't know.

(I found the explanation lame, but the emotional impact of that scene in the field was still pretty powerful.)

Day 27 - Best pilot episode
Day 28 - First TV show obsession

There are so many great pilot episodes. I know I'm probably forgetting some spectacular ones, and there's always the issue of pilot episodes that aren't equal to the quality of the rest of the series, but.

I really do think the Chuck pilot did a great job, because it sold me; I was a complete skeptic about the show before seeing it.

(With bonus Spanish subtitles. My favorite? "Auto-Nerd.")

First TV show obsession... man, who knows. I remember eagerly discussing Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes with my friends. (We'd be watching at the same time and gush "it's a Wesley!" if Wil Wheaton's name appeared in the opening credits.) One of the first shows I recorded regularly was The Tomorrow People, new series, along with The X-Files and some episodes of Lois & Clark.

Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale

Oh, there are a lot of shows I plan on watching. Party Down, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, maybe some Deadwood. I've recently started watching 30 Rock and Better Off Ted. Oh, and Band of Brothers.

As to the batshit crazy season finale, I'm gonna go with... Alias, S2. Needless to say, spoilers ahoy.

Day 23 - Most annoying character
Day 24 - Best quote

The characters I find most annoying are... well, the ones that are so cringetastically stupid that I can barely stand to watch them. The father on Family Guy comes to mind. (I don't actually watch the show; I've seen a few clips, but I find them entirely unfunny.)

If you mean from a show I actually watched, I found Monica Reyes on X-Files annoying.

Best quote entirely varies by my mood and is very much dependent on the context, but still. Let's see. And I can't find a clip on YouTube.

"I'm not much for public speaking, or much for speaking, or come to think of it, much for the public. And I'm not very good at lying. So let me just say that, in my experience, high school sucks. If I could do it all over again, I'd have started advanced placement classes in preschool so I could go from 8th grade straight to college. However, given the unalterable fact that high school sucks, I'd like to add that if you're lucky enough to have a good friend and a family that cares, then it doesn't have to suck quite as much. Otherwise, my advice is stand firm for what you believe in, until and unless logic and experience prove you wrong. Remember, when the emperor looks naked, the emperor is naked. The truth and the lie are not "sort of" the same thing. And there's no aspect, no facet, no moment in life that can't be improved with pizza. Thank you."

Day 21 - Favorite ship
Day 22 - Favorite series finale

Favorite ship - I seriously have an OTP for every show I watch, and my favorite ship at any given time is usually from my favorite show at the time. (Although my ultimate OTP is Nancy/Ned.) Usually they're canon, although Mad Men usually defies that.

So:

Alias: Sydney/Vaughn
Arrested Development: George-Michael/Maeby
Buffy: Buffy/Angel
Carnivalè: Ben/Sofie
Chuck: Chuck/Sarah
Community: Jeff/Annie
Damages: Ellen/David, Ellen/Wes
Daria: Daria/Tom
Get Smart: Max/99
Justified: Raylan/Winona
Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Goren/Eames (only offscreen, which works canonically), Logan/Barek
Lois & Clark: Lois/Clark
Mad Men: Peggy/Father Gill, Don/Betty, Don/Rachel, Pete/Trudy
Pushing Daisies: Ned/Chuck
Veronica Mars: Veronica/Duncan
X-Files: Mulder/Scully

Favorite series finale is Mystery Science Theater 3000, Diabolik.

Day 19 - Best TV show cast
Day 20 - Favorite kiss

For Best cast, I'm going with Arrested Development.

Honorable mention: Carnivalè, Alias, MST3K, Law & Order: Criminal Intent. And Archer, because, wow.

Favorite kiss. There are a lot of good candidates, but my favorite is from Lois & Clark. I had to embed the whole episode, but it's around 23:00. Lois and Clark figure out that the person keeping them captive in virtual reality is provoked when they get close, so they start making out, very self-consciously and awkwardly, and end up on the bed, pretense pretty much forgotten.

Honorable mention: Mulder and alt-Scully's kiss from "Triangle," X-Files; any time Duncan and Veronica make out during Season 2, Veronica Mars; Chuck and Sarah waking up in bed together from "Chuck vs the Colonel," Chuck; Sydney and Vaughn's kiss from "Phase One," Alias.

Day 17 - Favorite mini series
Day 18 - Favorite title sequence

Um... I don't actually have a favorite mini-series. I do love the Colin Firth Pride & Prejudice, but mini-series-es are the kinds of things that I put into my Netflix queue and discover later. Prospective favorite mini-series-es: The War, Band of Brothers, Jane Eyre, Tin Man, The Pacific.

Favorite title sequence... well, since there is no "favorite theme song," I'll use this to say how much the theme song from Damages kicks ass. The title sequence is really slick too.

Day 15 - Favorite female character
Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show

Heh. Right now my favorite female character is probably Daria.

(Other candidates: Veronica Mars, Dana Scully from The X-Files, Alex Eames from Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Sarah Walker from Chuck, and Sydney Bristow from Alias.)

Favorite guilty pleasure show... hmm. While I do adore Snapped for sheer batshittery, probably right now it's tosh.0.
