so, while you guys continue playing with the otp meme (i think the harder ones seem to be the book-based ones), i'll be watching the three-hour block of LOST EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
(well, you know, the hour long clip show and then the premiere.)
i made celebratory brownies. shut up.

Okay, I know that I'm not a quantum physicist, but, I was trying to explain the difference between Desmond's out-of-body experiences and what was happening on the island, to my mother, and I had to use a sheet of paper and a pen. I get that:
a) Desmond, when he was having his out-of-body experiences, went to Oxford when Daniel was still doing his research with his rat and they met.
b) However, Desmond had no reason to do that until after his body had been all the way to the island and he'd become unstuck.
c) Desmond did that and thereby changed his future.
d) The retcon from when Daniel banged on the hatch door and Desmond came out in his gas mask appeared to perpetuate to three years later, or possibly a bit more, when he was hanging out on Penny's boat.
e) Which would make Daniel's assertion that they cannot change the past incorrect.
f) But Daniel has been known to lie or stretch the truth for his own reasons.
f2) Also Daniel was in the flashback at the beginning of the ep, which probably took place late-70s-ish, I'd think.
g) WTF.
h) Does the fact that Desmond's *mind* went back in time make him special? The fact that he was able to come unstuck and survive it, in other words?
i) Daniel's "we can't change the past" assertion also has a few interesting implications. This would mean that Daniel does not believe in many worlds/alternate universe theory; however, if Ethan shot Locke soon after Remy's plane went down, then why didn't Ethan have a reaction to seeing Locke when he saw the Oceanic survivors on the beach? If he didn't, then the island's basically forming pocket alternate universes that snap out of existence as soon as the island flashes again. On the other hand, we can always pull the "He was under orders and wouldn't have admitted he knew Locke anyway" card. Also, Richard says he won't know Locke the next time they see each other, but Richard has known Locke since he was born, basically. Charlotte's said she can't remember her mother's maiden name; is this another sign that the timeline's being fucked with? And does this also mean that Daniel believes that anything he does to interact with Desmond in any timeline will be all right, either because Desmond is his constant or because Desmond was able to survive his being unstuck?
j) Will Fionnula Flanagan turn out to be Daniel's mom? Because that would be super awesome.
k) Does this also explain why Daniel cried when he saw Oceanic 815 on the bottom of the ocean? Actually, WTF, I have no clue how they're gonna explain that. I demand a Daniel-centric flashback ep.
l) Why do I find it hilarious that Vincent the dog is on the island when neither Walt nor Michael are.
