ndnickerson: (absolutely fabulous)
(actually, i had to go to the grocery store.)

What I wrote for Porn Battle XII:

forbid (nancy drew, nancy/ned, set in the runaway AU, follows runaway and to prove a negative; pg-13)
Carson forbids Nancy from seeing Ned. She disobeys almost immediately.

breathe out (so i can breathe you in) (nancy drew, nancy/ned, AU; NC-17)
Nancy and Ned are accidentally exposed to an experimental compound, with unexpected results.

lifeline (criminal intent, goren/eames, post-series; NC-17)
Dr. Gyson suggests a therapeutic exercise for Goren.

mistress (legend of the seeker, richard/kahlan, post-series; NC-17)
This honeymoon won't last forever.

I was going to write a Chuck story but I ran out of time, and I'll probably just add that to the list of stories I have in the works. And I had an idea for another Nancy Drew story but I'll probably just let that one go because I have too many going already. Blast it.

Thank you to everyone who voted in the poll and/or made comments about the [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang quandary! I'm going to stick with the enormous CIA story. Good times. AND I have this epic idea about what to do with the ending.

(I also thought it was really interesting that the kidnapping story is far more intriguing to you, my readers, than the Bess/Ned/Nancy triangle, but hey, that's good to know.)

I swear that I was going to work on another story today but instead I've written seven more pages on my [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang.

--

I stayed up until 5 a.m. reading a story in which, well, I would hate to ruin the surprise, but anyway, it involved Goren, Eames, vampires, Nicole Wallace, and sex. In some configuration. It's a WIP, not done yet, but anyway. I had to share it with [livejournal.com profile] jesshelga and now, those of you who also are fans of what definitely falls into the realm of straight-faced crackfic can also rejoice. Given that tonight was the (sobs quietly to self) Criminal Intent finale.

--

I really wish I could find the notebook that contains the very first fanfic I wrote, when I was about eleven years old, but I'm also glad, because it was so horrifically bad that I'm sure I would do spit-takes every other page.

I wrote it back when I had no idea there was such a thing as fanfic. I also, because I could, crossed every fandom I was into at the time, regardless of the fact that THEY DIDN'T EVEN TAKE PLACE IN REMOTELY THE SAME TIME PERIOD. I have no recollection of how I managed it.

I've rediscovered tumblr (I'm ndnickerson.tumblr.com) so if you post photos of Timothy Olyphant or Ryan Reynolds or squee about Nancy Drew or Community or randomly post MST3K quotes and I'm not already following you, do let me know so I can find you over there and you can witness me reblog random shots of Jon Hamm looking hot.

(I still don't know how to customize my layout or do almost anything other than reblog and click the little heart button and occasionally post random things.)

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you

Oh hell. The list of shows that haven't disappointed me is much shorter.

-Chuck - I've written many, many entries on why Season 3 just didn't work as well as I was expecting. (In fact, I'm working on another retrospect one.) That's not to say I won't be watching Season 4; I just feel like S3 was a lot of wheel-spinning.
-Veronica Mars - Seasons 1 and 2 were strong, especially S1; I lost interest in the show halfway through S3.
-Big Bang Theory - I liked Leonard/Penny until it happened. (I'm sure the show could manage to screw up Sheldon/Penny too, let's be honest.)
-The X-Files - should have ended with S7.
-Lois & Clark - You have to admit, that lame clone marrying Clark thing was... yeah, lame. On the whole, though, I did love this series, and the cliffhanger at the end was just mean, considering that we never saw the resolution.
-Law & Order: Criminal Intent - got rid of Goren and Eames. After driving Goren's personal life off a cliff.

Otherwise I get disappointed when a show doesn't live up to its hype - I think Harper's Island was good but I was expecting something a little different. And sometimes I'll get very excited about a show but then its pilot utterly sucks and I have no interest in watching after that. (I figured out very early that I didn't want to watch Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, or Grey's Anatomy every week.) It's possible those shows got better. I'm probably not going to tune back in to find that out.

(Also, am I disappointed that Stabler and Benson haven't hooked up? Yeah, a little, even though I stopped watching SVU a few seasons ago.)

I'm going to cheat

("now she says she's going to cheat?" you exclaim irritably at the computer screen. "like she ever does anything else?")

and say favorite episodes of 5 TV shows. And then probably embed video/explanation behind the cut because it always slows this blanking computer down/could spoil you.

01. The X-Files: Memento Mori
02. Mystery Science Theater 3000: Soultaker
03. Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Wee Small Hours
04. Mad Men: Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency/Shut the Door. Have a Seat

01. i saw revolutionary road this weekend. i was struck by:

-how much it felt like a play. closer was a play that really worked as a movie; revolutionary road is apparently based on a book but i was watching it with subtitles, and kate and leo's line deliveries and dramatic gestures did make it feel really play-like.
-how much leo's character was like pete campbell from mad men, only slightly less of a sociopath.

i'm of the opinion that if you like the movie, you'll love mad men. it has a lot of the same elements, the same ambiguity, but i feel that it's done better.

02. damages has really kicked it up a few notches, especially with last night's episode.

and all that crap about your family )

03. in fact, maybe it's time for us to talk justified. i've really enjoyed it so far, and the preview for tonight's ep looks like it is also going to be great. now i want to read some elmore leonard.

04. chuck! on to the spoilers! )

05. on sunday i just watched an old episode of community for the hell of it (it was the phys ed one). i do love that show, and i wish it would come back on, but apparently it's coming back the same week chuck is, which makes me sad. i can't wait until the DVD set comes out so i can get more people watching. =D

06. i would be so happy if scifi would air reruns of mst3k once a week like they used to. even on saturday mornings, like they used to. *sigh*

07. part 2 of the law & order: criminal intent season premiere tonight. i hope everyone currently alive stays alive and that there is more hugging and marriage-feigning tonight.

i wonder if i'm in this fix-things rut, which is ridiculous, since i am not a showrunner by any stretch of the imagination. i started with fixing the chuck 3x07 freakout via fic, and now i've written a fic to fix season 9 of criminal intent before it's even started. the closer it gets, the more concerned i am that goren or eames are going to bite it. I'M SERIOUS GUYS, I WILL TOTALLY CRY.

crock pot is full of soup ingredients. kitchen is a mess. going to make a chocolate cheesecake before the night is over.

also i adore this ridiculous marathon of snapped that's running on oxygen right now. the narrator is so dramatically serious, the reenactments are blurry still shots. now i want to watch mst3k: tormented. "it's sandy! your little conscience!"

that's it, i think. oh, and: i think THE WOLFMAN would've gone better if they hadn't just kind of sideways acknowledged that they were making cheesy cinema: they should have gone full-out over-the-top with it. what with the HUGE DRAMATIC SHOTS OF THE RISING MOON and, well, sir anthony hopkins.

"that means you have to accept that she's the best lesbian lover to have ever walked this earth." oh, "snapped," never change.

* criminal intent directors are really good at the pre-commercial abuse/meaningful glance/incest implication scenes. i always feel kinda bad for the actors. "so i really have to act like i'm gonna shove that kid's face against a stove burner? is there any way we can get around this?" "no. also, make your expression a little more evil, a little less conflicted."

* i blame [livejournal.com profile] jesshelga for my having mostly watched "you've got mail" this morning. and i agree with the "with anyone other than tom hanks, it wouldn't have worked nearly as well." the modem dialup noises were so cute.

* i seem to have started watching "legend of the seeker," because WGN shows a criminal intent mini-marathon on saturday afternoons that i almost always seem to tune in to, and "legend of the seeker" shows right after it. however, we're now mid-season 2 and i haven't seen season 1. so i poke around on amazon and end up ordering the first three books in the series instead of the s1 DVD set. this should be interesting.

* picked up a reliable wife by goolrick based on its kickass cover art. and slaughterhouse five because i read a few vonnegut short stories and got intrigued.

* barbecue chicken in the crock pot. MMMMMMMMM.

bad hand.

bad morning. had dr's appt. was slightly dehydrated so now i have three holes in the backs of my hands and didn't actually manage to get blood drawn so have to go back and have that done. ARGH.

on the other hand i got lunch for free.

am working on a fic, have the first two-thirds done but just can't get the last third to work. maybe i'll be able to work on it tonight.

also, it looks like vince and kathryn are leaving law & order: ci? sometime in the middle of this season? hmm. honestly, i wish them well and love them to pieces, and if they wanted to move on and the showrunners wanted to do something new, so be it, although i really don't think making ci *more* like psych is the best move. like that last episode when goldblum was in that one scene and it ended so bleakly? yeah, that's not like psych.

which brings me to: i wouldn't ship goren/eames on the show. i think they care about each other a lot and basically are each other's family, in a way, except that the last few seasons have tried to mess with that dynamic, but i'd want their time on the show to end on a positive note, and *then* i'd want there to be post-show goren/eames fic. that's what i love about fic, being able to put them together later and everything not be quite perfect or awesome, but probably better than we would have seen on the show if that had happened.

and that's also why i'm mostly at peace for the chuck/sarah to be mostly unresolved. as long as they're both alive at the end of the show, there can be fic and it can be glorious. and even if they aren't both alive, that's what AU is for. although i really think that if they're able to plan the end of the show, it will be with the understanding that chuck and sarah will finally actually have a chance to be together somehow. and that's why the spoilers i've accidentally read about where they're going with S3 don't really bother me that much.

i really need to finish that fic before the show comes back and josses it.
