it's chucktastic!
Jul. 20th, 2009 12:35 pmit's chuck me monday again! visit chuckme.renewchuck.com to watch and twitter along (US only, i think). today's episode is chuck vs the truth, which a) is awesome, and b) has marshall flinkman (kevin weisman) from alias. and he does gymnastics. in other words, it's a win-win. i'll be twittering as sarah_bartowski for the evening.
i should be ashamed to admit this, but: i have the majority of the mst3k boxed sets (i'm still missing two or three), and i've only seen maybe half the episodes. for me, mst3k episodes are like an acquired taste; the more i watch them, the more i love them. i have to be in the right mood to watch an episode i've never seen before, but once i do that, i watch them over and over.
which is how i owned monster a-go go for years, i'm sure, but didn't actually see it until last night. it was every bit as batshit spectacular as i had heard. there was no monster. i mean, there was, but there was no monster. also they used a similar sound cue to the one in invasion of the neptune men, which puppy did not care for, so she barked through a good ten minutes of the movie.
[also mst3k has the distinction of almost always being able to cheer me up, so by keeping a stockpile, it's like having an emergency backup of zoloft or something. maybe zoloft crossed with nitrous.]
while packing i only kept three kinds of vhs tapes: ones containing mst3k episodes, ones containing season 3 the adventures of pete & pete episodes, and the tomorrow people (new series) eps, the latter of which i taped off nickelodeon 15 years ago. whew. (i own the tomorrow people new series on region 2 dvds, but can only watch them on a computer, and the only pete & pete sets are seasons 1 and 2.) i tossed a lot of x-files tapes, because the boxed sets are cheap enough now that i can replace them easily.
saw harry potter and the half-blood prince this weekend, and it was moody and nice, but definitely felt like it was setting the stage for the last two movies. also i didn't get to see the sherlock holmes trailer before it, which was super irritating. guess i'll just have to watch it 42 more times online with the sound turned way up.
last night's criminal intent: from the previews i thought it was going to be 30 minutes of goren going undercover in some sort of poker ring, which thank God it wasn't. it took me a few minutes to figure out where i'd seen the characters before, and it was nice that there was continuity from season 5, and there were a few nice moments between goren and eames (she's looking at a photo and he's looking over her shoulder and i don't know why it hit me so well), and i really wanted the faux carrie anne moss to be responsible, but she wasn't. ahh well. (also, note to self: huge white escalade, not a good choice for a getaway car.) and i still need to watch last night's in plain sight.
